Robert Jordan IEng CBIM MIM FIDir FRSA FICME

Friday, 5 October 2018

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Bob Jordan.

Bob passed away on Friday September 28th in Warwickshire surrounded by his family. He had suffered from and fought against cancer for some time but eventually succumbed following a recent worsening of his condition.

Bob joined the Institute whilst studying at the National Foundry College in the late 1950’s and this took him to his first Institute meetings in Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

After spending his early years with APV Paramount in Crawley Sussex which introduced him to meetings in the London Branch, he then moved back to the Midlands to join Foseco International in Birmingham. This was a time of many happy memories for Bob.

In 1963 his Foseco work took him to Germany before then moving on to India and Japan. This gave him the opportunity to become involved in their respective Foundry organisations whilst still retaining a close involvement with the IBF.

In 1967 he was made an Honorary member of the Institute of Indian Foundrymen.

In 1970 he moved from Japan to the USA, which began a period of many year’s involvement with the AFS and the Cleveland Chapter. In the mid-eighties he returned to the UK to become Group Managing Director of the Foseco Group.

In 1987 Bob was privileged to join the WFO Executive Committee, representing both the Institute and the UK, he spent 14 years on the Executive Committee and went on to become the WFO President in 1991. Following his year in office, he continued as Treasurer until 2001.

As a Fellow and a Member of the Institute’s Investments Advisory Committee, he always stayed in touch with its progress.

He was awarded a Long and Notable Services award in 2014, and a Gold Long Service Pin for over 50 years as a member of our Institute.
