Advanced Metal Castings Centre - Technicians
Applications from experienced and highly motivated individuals are invited for the position of Technician (2) at Brunel University London. The starting salary will be in the range (£26,052 - £32,004) + London Weighting (Currently £2,166), depending on qualifications and experience.
BCAST is a specialist research centre in the field of solidification and casting of metallic materials, with a strong international reputation. BCAST has expanded rapidly, and has a strategic plan for further growth and increasing industrial engagement for R&D. BCAST is the host of the national centre of excellence in liquid metal engineering (the Future LiME Hub); has recently opened the purpose-built Advanced Metals Casting Centre (AMCC) housing large scale metal casting/processing facilities for conducting applied research with industrial partners. The Technician positions will play a key role in the effective running of the facility.
To work as an integral member of the AMCC Facility within BCAST to generate world-class knowledge in solidification science, especially related to industrial scale processes. The role will play a key part in maintaining the AMCC facility as a showroom for new metals processing. The role will supervise all technical areas in order to support programmes by providing a safe environment and to assist in the development of new, innovative and sustainable technologies. The role will be responsible for maintaining and operating a range of metal processing equipment to support applied research programmes. The following experience would be an advantage:
• Experience with hot processing equipment
• Experience in molten metal
• Experience on large scale / industrial equipment
• Maintenance skills in electrical / mechanical / hydraulic systems
The technician will be an integral member of a small team who together will work closely to maintain the whole AMCC facility as a “showroom” of casting technology and will take responsibility for maintaining it to agreed, as new standards. The activities required to achieve this will be carried out in accordance with the safety, environmental and quality procedures of Brunel University and specific schedules for AMCC. The technician will be working as a member of a project team where accuracy, team working and responsiveness are important attributes. The technician will participate in applied research programmes and lead the net shape casting activity for the project team. Experience in the treatment, handling and casting of non-ferrous alloys is required.
